FOR many years the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies has proved its worth in silver to aspiring metalwork designers.
NADFAS offers an annual bursary to budding silversmiths from Sheffield Hallam University to realise their designs in the precious metal for the very first time.
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of NADFAS and their dedicated support for emerging
makers, a selection of these stunning debut works will go on show at Museums Sheffield: Millennium Gallery next week.
To win the bursary, the metalwork and jewellery students from Sheffield Hallam University face a panel of experts, including tutors, Museums Sheffield curators and makers, giving them their first experience of pitching their designs in a business environment.
The successful students are not only awarded funding by NADFAS to produce their designs in silver, but also see their finished piece join Museums Sheffield's internationally-renowned metalwork collection.
This new display in the Millennium Gallery foyer, funded by NADFAS, will showcase seven works from winning students.
Museums Sheffield are custodians of one of the most important collections of decorative and domestic metalwork in the UK, which has been classed as a designated collection by the Department of Culture Media and Sport, in recognition of its national and historical significance.
The display will be on view from from Wednesday to November 16.
