ORGANISERS of the Showcomotion Young People's Film Festival are reporting record numbers for their tenth anniversary festival which saw 7,728 people come to the festival in 2008, an increase of 36% from 2007. The festival ran this year from June 26 to July 10 at the Showroom Cinema in Sheffield.
Festival director Kathy Loizou said: "I'm delighted that we are celebrating our tenth anniversary festival with record attendances. In 2007 the festival expanded from 10 to 15 days so we could programme more screenings and I'm pleased to say that the
expansion was successful and has led to a growth in audience numbers."
Mark Walsh, the supervising animator on the Disney-Pixar film Ratatouille, was a special guest giving a talk about the work of Pixar Animation Studios.
The opening night gala kicked off the festival off in style with the premiere of Kung Fu Panda, the much-anticipated animation showing in Sheffield on the same night as the London premiere.
Then in the following 15 days, a total of 175 films from around the world were screened including 97 films made by young people. There were 13 features and 162 shorts from 22 countries.
