YORKSHIRE'S reputation as a hot-bed for games development has received a further boost with the announcement of the finalists for the 2008 Develop Industry Excellence Awards with four companies from the region - two of them from Sheffield - nominated across 17 categories.
Sheffield's Sumo Digital have been recognised for their work with publisher partner, Sega and are in the running for the 'Best Use of a License' award. They are also nominees in the 'Audio Accomplishment' category. www.sumo-digital.com

Distinctive Developments, mobile games specialists, also from Sheffield have been nominated for the second year running in the category for the award of 'Best Mobile Studio'. www.distdevs.co.uk

The Develop Industry Excellence Awards are voted for by a panel of industry experts and announced at a ceremony in Brighton on July 30.
