Representatives of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh visited Sheffield this week to gain maintenance and systems training on the Airport Baggage Handling Systems supplied by Geo Robson & Co Ltd of Darnall.
Four visitors from ZIA International Airport, Dhaka, Bangladesh, took a tour of Robson's recent installations including Gatwick, Heathrow and Birmingham airports.

The systems training took place at Robson's Sheffield factory, and included the electrical and mechanical: installation, commissioning and maintenance of the system.

Robson was recently awarded a contract to supply ZIA International Airport with two new state of the art Friction Drive Baggage Carousels each eighty-eight metres long, with the refurbishment and expansion of two more, expanding the original carousels from sixty-six metres to eighty-eight metres.

The Friction Drive Carousels are constructed from modern lightweight polymers, which reduce the power consumption by half, minimising the effect on the environment, another benefit of the new technology is the reduction of operating noise making the reclaim baggage hall a more serene place to work.

The five-day visit and training programme concluded with Robert Edley Managing Director of Robson presenting two of the visitors MD.

Mozaharul Hoque and MD. Enamul Kabir with advanced maintenance-training certificates for Conveyor systems. Mr Edley said:

"The training programme proved to be very successful, the candidates have gained a thorough understanding and knowledge in how to maintain the Baggage Handling System. Ensuring the good service and smooth running of the conveyors for many years to come".
