Two Sheffield firms have won the contract to supply all the medals and trophies for this year's Bupa Great Yorkshire Run.
Chimo Holdings, on Eyre Lane, will be making thousands of participants' medals, which will then be buffed and finished by Wentworth Pewter, which is making the winners' medals and the race trophy.
What's more the medals have also been designed by
a local artist – James Nichols, who works for the David Mellor design company in Hathersage and won a design competition organised by Galvanize Sheffield and Wentworth Pewter.
Great Yorkshire Run project manager John Mayock said organisers were keen to use local suppliers for all their needs wherever possible.
"Sheffield has such a strong reputation for the quality and experience of its metals industries, so it seemed absolutely right that we should aim to source our medals and trophies right here in steel city.
"Both firms have given us absolute confidence in the quality of their products and we're delighted to be making this contribution to supporting the local economy – and to be able to say that this year's race medals are truly 'made in Sheffield'."
Last year's inaugural Bupa Great Yorkshire Run saw more than 4,500 people take to the streets of Sheffield, to raise thousands of pounds for local charities.
Hopes are that numbers taking part will be even higher this year, when participants will be using a new course which is flatter and faster than last year's and includes a stretch under the south stand at Sheffield Wednesday's Hillsborough Stadium.
The closing date for all applications is August 26. For more information or to download an entry form visit www.greatrun.org
