DESPITE parent company MJ Gleeson being hit by the downturn in the construction market, Powerminster Gleeson Services is still showing strong growth with the company reporting an increase in operating profit for the third consecutive year.
The company, which employs more than 100 people at its head office in Sheffield and has regional offices in the North West, West and North Yorkshire and the South East of the country, is currently seeing the rapid expansion of its business in both th
e residential and commercial maintenance and facilities management sectors.
Powerminster Gleeson Services has secured a significant forward order book due to its involvement in several high profile PFI (Private Finance Initiative) projects in Manchester, Kent, Leeds and Cheshire. These contracts are agreed for 25-30 year periods, providing stability that is reassuring in the current challenging economic climate.
Martyn Horton, managing director for Powerminster Gleeson Services, says: "As a business, we have changed over the years in response to market requirements and now offer a much broader range of property maintenance services to both the public and private sectors. Much of our business is longer term, which provides us with a buffer against downturns in the market and ensures that we have a greater element of stability within our business. We are very optimistic about the future."
The company continues to add to its portfolio of services, which includes the recent launch of ProCare, a total facilities management services to social landlords. The company is also working on initiatives to make changing to more energy efficient heating systems more affordable for homeowners in these times of rising energy prices.
Recent successes for the company includes winning contracts to provide facilities management services for Cheshire ExtraCare Sheltered housing, with Cheshire County Council and the Leeds Independent Living project, working with Leeds City Council.
Says Martyn Horton: "We cannot afford to be complacent which his why we focus on providing customers with the best possible service. We have already made significant inroads into new market sectors and will continue to monitor the market and respond to its requirements."
Powerminster Gleeson Services now has a total facilities management order book with an anticipated value in excess of £158m.
