GOALKEEPER James Holmshaw aims to make some serious savings in terms of his carbon footprint as he makes inroads into the courier business.
James, who has sub-contracted as a courier for the last four years, set up City Sameday Ltd in March of this year and has already made the company carbon-neutral and has a long-term ambition to become totally carbon-free.

He said: "We realise that
our business harms the environment and I am committed to finding a solution, rather than becoming part of the problem.

"We are officially a carbon-neutral company already and I want to take it further by becoming completely carbon-free.

"We can't do that immediately, partly because of the cost implications and partly because the technology is not quite there yet, but we will get there in the end.''

City Sameday is already making a difference by using a smart car wherever possible.

James said: "One small van travelling to London means 100.9 Kg of C02. That my not seem a lot but if five Sheffield businesses send an envelope a day to the capital, that's half a tonne of C02.

"By using our Smart cars, we save 38.5 kg a trip and we want to try and persuade as many companies as possible to use our daily London run.

"It's good for business and good for the environment.''

James has been the goalkeeper for Sheffield FC for the last two years and is in the process of setting up a new base for City Sameday Ltd at the club's Bright Finance Stadium in Dronfield.

He said: "I'm still signed up with Sheffield and it's a fantastic club to be involved with but I've had to say this season that business comes first.

"I was due to play in a match against Gresley recently and them someone wanted a delivery at short notice which I had to sort out.''

As the name suggests, James' firm is a same-day courier with a daily service from Sheffield, Leeds, Manchester and Birmingham to London.

It pledges to collect from any UK postcode within an hour.

City Sameday specialises in legal documents, tenders, contracts, parcels, passports and conference or exhibition equipment.
