ENGINEERING giant Dormer Tools has outlined how its new site at the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) will help push the boundaries of tool development.
Dormer announced it will unveil a dozen new products to its extensive range in September and follows the decision by the international company to create a major research and development centre at its new facility within the AMP.

Part of the Swedish-based Sandvik Group, Dormer Tools is constructing a 20,000 sq ft state of the art facility at the innovative and world-class AMP, which is on the border of Rotherham and Sheffield.

Nick Garner, managing director at Dormer Tools Ltd, said: "This announcement follows our decision to place more focus on devising modern tooling.

"Dormer Tools is now looking at how it can best serve the market with any new tool it develops. It's not always a case of just shipping out new products, but creating the tools which support the needs of the client.

"This escalation of research, design and development will see more products added to our range and there is an even greater push to develop further products in the future.

"The research and development facility at our new site within the AMP will play such a crucial role to the future of the business. It will not only add new tools and showcase their development, but also provide a training platform for end-users on how to work with them. "

It has been a successful start to 2008 for Dormer Tools, with the decision to return to Sheffield city region followed by the announcement the company has been awarded the European Foundation for Quality Management honour for its expertise as one of the world leaders in the rotary cutting tool industry.

John O'Donoghue, General Manager at Dormer Tools, added: "It has been an extremely successful period for Dormer during the last few years. The company has really kicked on and the development at the AMP is in recognition of the potential of Dormer Tools.

"Success is contagious and once everyone has tasted it, they want more. I have seen the enthusiasm of the staff and feel for the company grow in the last few years, there is certainly a can do attitude about the place.

"Sheffield has a strong skills base in the tooling industry. We feel Dormer is now pushing back the boundaries in metal cutting, utilising local skills to ultimately increase product development."

Property expert Knight Frank will oversee the multi-million pound Dormer Tools move.

lKnight Frank Commercial's building consultancy team, headed up by partner Jonathan Ingleby, will be co-ordinating the relocation to the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP).

Jonathan Ingleby said: "This is an intensive but extremely exciting project for Knight Frank's team. Over the next seven months we will be co-ordinating the move from monitoring the works on site through to practical completion to ensure the project is delivered on time and to the high standards.

"Our role is to bring the whole project together for Dormer."
