Gilder Group set to usher ina new era at Meadowhead

THE first half of the £15 million Gilder Group development at Meadowhead in Sheffield is set to open on Monday December 1.
Sheffield Audi will be housed in the first section of the new complex to open and Gilder Group property director Peter Sutherland said: "The contractors have confirmed the opening date and, as a result, Peter Gilder Audi and Audi Approved Chesterfiel
d will be closed on Saturday November 29 and Sunday November 30.

"The second phase of the development – Sheffield Volkswagen – is scheduled to open on January 2, 2009. Sheffield Volkswagen will be an amalgamation of our existing sites at Banner Cross and Hillsborough, which will both close at the end of December."

The Gilder Group's head office will also relocate to the Meadowhead site during December and January from its current location at Gilder Volkswagen in Chesterfield. The retail and servicing operation at this facility will remain to look after customers more local to Chesterfield.

Sutherland added: "We are proud to continue to look after our customers in Sheffield. Their continued support of our brands will help us issue in this new era for the Gilder Group, a business which has formed an integral part of the city for 70 years.

"Despite the current economic climate, the quality brands of Audi and Volkswagen continue to outperform their competitors in the UK motor industry.

"We feel the new facility will provide our customers with the level of service they have a right to expect which has not always been available at our current, much smaller sites.

"This development has been many years in the planning and is the combined result of the commitment and professionalism from all parties involved.

"Contractors JF Finnegan have also been instrumental in delivering this state-of-the-art building which will form a new gateway to Sheffield."
