MEMBERS of Hillsborough Park Bowling Club were bowled over when Gilder Group Volkswagen stepped in to sponsor the club's annual tournament to celebrate Civic Bowls Week in the city.
Says Derek Ellis, club member and co-organiser of the event: "Civic Bowls Week began during the second World War when Sheffielders had no choice but to holiday at home – it gave people of all ages something to do and here in Hillsborough we've never
looked back.

"There are 450 bowling teams in Sheffield alone. They play every week and the sport is hugely popular. We're expecting more than 1,000 people at the club during the week and were delighted when Gilder Group Volkswagen said they'd sponsor this year's tournament."

Eliot Darwin, sales executive at Gilder Group Volkswagen, said: "We were only too happy to support this fantastic tournament which also coincides with the centenary celebrations of Sheffield Parks Association. A number of my older colleagues remember Civic Bowls Week so it's great the company can help to keep the bowling tradition alive for future generations."
