SHEFFIELD rugby seconds romped to victory against Leeds – putting nine tries past the visitors - to keep their title chances alive.
The win sets up a championship decider with league leaders Northumbria thirds next Wednesday.

Sheffield played some stylish rugby and blew their Yorkshire counterparts away in the first half, scoring seven tries.
The game, which was played out
in glorious sunshine, allowed Uni to play some attractive running rugby.

Sheffield started the game at a high tempo and were two tries up within the first ten minutes.

Excellent work by Uni's centres allowed Alex Rumley to open the account for the hosts.

A poor over throw at a Leeds lineout resulted in Sheffield increasing their lead.

Harry Williams was on hand and he picked up the pieces and his rampaging run saw him tackled just short of the line. The ball was spread left and Matt Thorogood dived over in the corner.

Uni's third try came after a wonderful passage of play that involved nearly all of the team.

Uni broke down the left, with quick offloads from the tackle ensuring the play kept moving forward.

Just when it seemed Uni would lose possession, the forwards bravely piled in to win the ball back.

It was then spread wide to the right and some deft touches gave James Farrell the opportunity to touch down to cap off a sensational move.
Uni dominated throughout and scored three more tries – Thorogood, Owen Pocock and Jake Woods crossing the line - to take them into a 46 point lead at half-time.

Leeds never really threatened Uni's try line and only briefly ventured into the home team's 22.

Leeds started more brightly after the restart and nicked a try thanks to good work from their forwards.

The pace of the game was relentless, with Uni playing some wonderful flowing rugby.

Some woeful kicking from Leeds allowed Sheffield to keep the pressure on for most of the half.

But Uni failed to turn their territory into points as silly mistakes and overly adventurous play meant they only scored two more tries.
However Uni had the last say. From the base of a ruck, Ben Ashton darted down the left flank and after a series of offloads, winger Chris Keogh received the ball.

His path to the try line was blocked by three defenders so he threw an outrageous American football style pass inside.
The ball was caught by Nick Barrett who strolled in to touchdown under the posts.

Ben Davies, solid with the boot all day, slotted the easy conversion over to round off the scoring.

Team captain Stuart Totty – sidelined due to a knee injury – was impressed by his team's performance.
He said: "Some of the rugby we played was a bit champagne at times and generally we played very well.

"The first half was awesome and we dominated the game throughout."
