TWO army officers were arrested last month in a Burns' Night party at the University of Sheffield's Officer Training Corps barracks.
The two men were arrested by the Royal Military Police (RMP) on suspicion of taking drugs at the Somme Barracks on Gell Street near the city centre. It was later confirmed that these students were not students at the University.
The RMP were calle
d in the early hours of Saturday January 26 following a tip-off about the behaviour of the two officers.
Areas of the officers' mess were then sealed off whilst a forensic team inspected the premises. Police visited a domestic property in Sheffield where the arrests were made.
A spokesperson from the Ministry of Defence later confirmed that the officers had been detained on suspicion of the misuse of controlled substances.
The officers, one of the regular Army and one of the Territorial Army, will be passed through the military justice system and may be dismissed from the Forces if found guilty due to the Army's strict policy on drugs.
The event was a social function for over 80 people including the University's Officer Training Corps detachment.
