Anti-climax

I SAT in the dressing room on Wednesday night simply gutted, drained of both physical strength and emotion; I wasn't the only one.
I looked around and saw 16 other bodies, ashen white guys who had given their all, but had just come short against an impressive Coventry side in our 5-4 loss.
Mathematically, the title is still open, but the reality is that Coventry are just two wins away from the Championship.
We have done remarkably well to get ourselves back into this race, 14 wins in 15 games, which put us in a position where we thought we had a chance, where we believed we had a chance but we can't let our heads go down, that's the message as captain I must ensure is translated to the team.
They all know that we have just a handful of games before the Play-offs and our form over recent weeks would make us one of the favourites for the post-season competition.
Wednesday was just so anti-climatic I really felt we had done enough to get back into the race, but it wasn't to be.
The Play-offs are now our only hopes of winning a trophy and, as I have told you all year, I've always felt I would lift a trophy as captain of the Steelers team, that this team was good enough to lift the trophy and that my team-mates were good enough to become winners .
There is much talk about David Matsos signing a new contract.
I hope he and the club agree terms soon; I want to stay in Sheffield and want to play for David Matsos.
Look where he has taken us in the last two seasons, from an unorganised team without structure to a competent organised team, a disciplined unit, and a group of guys who have taken this club from six place to fourth place and now to second place in two seasons.
Matty will bring the Steelers success, I hope, this year, in the Play-offs, but certainly in years to come.
I still feel terrible, there's a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. However, I've got to shake it off before Saturday because, as winning becomes a habit, so does losing and we are not going to lose to the Newcastle Vipers on Saturday.
Just in closing, thanks for the support on Wednesday night, thank you also for believing in us, we're all so sorry we came up short.
