WHAT a weekend we have had to look forward to.
The dressing room has been buzzing all week. You see, the Nottingham Panthers are coming back to Sheffield on Saturday for a League game and I think we have to put the record straight on a few matters with them!
You'll remember that they beat us 6-3 the last time they came to Sheffield in the Challenge Cup Final first leg.
You'll also remember that we didn't have our number one goalie, Jody Lehman in between the pipes that night.
The Nottingham players took the mickey a little bit that evening; taunted our bench and anyone would have thought that they had won the Stanley Cup come the end of the night, not just the first leg of the Challenge Cup Final.
So, do we, as hockey players, remember their words, actions and taunts? Too right we do. Do we want revenge? Do we want pay back and do we want to set the record straight? Well you can take that one for the bank: yes we do!
Our room has been so focused this week we are so ready and Jody will be between our pipes.
He conceded just one goal last weekend; he was dominant, outstanding, just so sure of himself and when he plays like that it gives the confidence and edge we need to take our game to the next level.
I am the captain of the Sheffield Steelers and with that comes leadership responsibilities.
However, I am not the only leader on our team: Jody leads us every night and Steve Munn showed in Cardiff why he is a leader on our team, the list goes on and on.
We're going to beat Nottingham on Saturday and we're going to beat them by more than three goals on February 20 and win that Challenge Cup in their building in front of their fans.
It will be so sweet.
I've told you before how excited I was to come to Sheffield and play in these games against Nottingham. I did think, though, that after a while my excitement and enthusiasm would wane a little. How wrong could I have been. I get more excited, more emotional and feel more for the Steelers-Panthers rivalry every time we play Nottingham.
f you would have asked me two years ago if I would have bought into the Sheffield-Nottingham rivalry I would have shrugged my shoulders and said yes, sure, OK.
However, now I am as committed to the Steelers' cause and thus the anti-Panthers' cause as anybody in Sheffield, apart from Simmsey (he really is possessed.)
Tomorrow I honestly believe we will make our fans proud and, most importantly, set the record straight.
