IT was a wonder the rink didn't melt, so hot was Saturday's Dancing On Ice show.
Opening with a dazzling performance complete with fireworks, Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean certainly 'got the party started' as they twisted and twirled to the Pink anthem, backed up by the impressive group of professional skaters.

Former con
testant Andi Peters was the host for the night, while the arrival of the judging panel was greeted by the right mix of boos and cheers from the excited Sheffield audience.

The 2007 champion, Kyran Bracken, was first up to skate. Perhaps it was the pressure of opening proceedings, but the rugby ace took two tumbles as he glided round the ice with partner Melanie Lambert. But it didn't matter to the thousands of fans gathered - and even led to the set-up of an ongoing joke throughout the show, as Christopher Dean showed him a 'trick' of picking up an imaginary obstacle from the ice and chucking it out of the rink.

But aside from a few stumbles, watching this group of celebrities up close was an awe-inspiring experience. To see them master moves like the Headbanger and a host of other tricky lifts, twists and turns after only a few weeks of training was truly impressive.

And when the professionals took to the floor you really didn't know where to look, with so many incredible things going on all over the ice.

But, more than 20 years after they scored their Olympic Gold, Torvill and Dean were still the true stars of the show. Their talent and natural gracefulness on the ice, matched by their chemistry and passion for the dances, truly sent shivers down your spine.
Catch Dancing On Ice when it returns to Sheffield Arena on Saturday May 17.
