HIGHLY Strung, part of Music in the Round's education and outreach umbrella Music in the Community, hold their annual summer school next week culminating with a public concert on Friday.
It starts on Monday when 20 string players aged 11-18 gather at Sheffield University's Pisgah House under the tutelage of violinist Martin Cropper, cellist Liz Hanks and viola player Cian O'Duill.
They will work on large ensemble string playing, a
s well as in smaller chamber groups such as quintets, quartets, trios and duos all with an eye on communication aspects in music performance.
Friday's concert features music worked on in the week and is at Fulwood Old Chapel. It starts at 7pm and tickets, on the door, are £5.
Highly Strung is made up of string players from four Sheffield secondary schools who attend weekly coaching sessions with Martin Cropper and Liz Hanks, the group's directors.
