NO-ONE seems to know if this excellent student-status group of talented musicians led by postgraduate pianist Gary O'Shea, whose mentors are Peter Hill and Benjamin Frith, is going to continue.
They cannot have been together long as Amy Finch is a first-year undergraduate, although she arrived at Sheffield University as an accomplished violinist, of no mean ability on this evidence, but postgraduate studies at the RNCM are beckoning for cellist Ed Harper.

They have splendid rapport and clearly enjoy playing music together, evident here in a Mozart Fifth Piano Trio of charm and purpose, a commanding Haydn No 35 and strong performances of two Schubert one-movement works for piano trio, Sonata and Notturno, the latter super playing of a super work.

Not all was without blemish but evident technical ability suggested imperfections were simply lapses at the time and, in any case, the relatively few flaws were far outweighed by so much that was good and admirable in its freshness and totally unmannered execution.
