PEOPLE rose to their feet to applaud at the end of an awesome account of Messiaen's Visions de l'Amen.
With two master pianists in frightening form, this was Messiaen on his grandest scale, the technical brilliance and overlapping virtuosity being the tools for sublimation of the composer's visions in all their glory, nowhere more so than the cascadin
g tonal effulgence of the final Amen of the Consummation.
Stravinsky's Rite of Spring was similarly compelling and stunning with amazing clarity and resonance as four hands on one piano fused in perfect, symbiotic unison. The rhythmic coordination was astonishing and the whole regularly took on hypnotic dimensions.
