BLAGOVEST means good news in Russian.
And, good news! The Blagovest Ensemble from St Petersburg return to St Andrew's Psalter Lane Church on Friday, September 12.

The six-member a capella group of bass, baritone, tenor, soprano and mezzo soprano is directed by Olga Kozlova, who balanc
es the male-female voice spread up by singing second soprano.

The first half of their programme takes in Russian Orthodox Church and sacred music, including some by the country's greatest composers, which is resurfacing having been taboo under Soviet rule.

In the second, the group turn to Russian folk music in its many guises: heroic, proud, loving and humorous.

The concert starts at 8pm and tickets are £6, £4 concessions in advance from (0114) 2678289.
