"AS well as old-time classics, here at Ellesmere, we're always up for trying something new," declares Steve Myers, musical director of Ellesmere Operatic's MD Show Stoppers for 2008 next week at the Montgomery Theatre
All-time classics, as opposed to 'old-time,' seems more appropriate to describe well-known items from Kismet, Gypsy, Guy and Dolls, Hello, Dolly! Camelot, not to mention from Half a Sixpence, Oliver! My Fair Lady and Scrooge in a five-number Cockney
Capers slot.

However, if you are going to do three numbers each from such bang-up-to-date shows as Hairspray and Avenue Q, inspired by children TV's Sesame Street, they must seem like old-time.

On the other hand, what of the six numbers from Godspell which open the evening and the four from Jekyll and Hyde which close it?

Now, Nessun Dorma, of all things. That is old!

Joining in the fun are resident Ellesmere guests Wayne Biggin doing his stand-up comedy routines and Gary St John, more in evidence than normal, but then who else could do an Oklahoma! selection?
