HELEN Appleton, who has been singing since she was 12 when she joined the City of Sheffield Girls' Choir, gives a farewell concert at Millhouses Methodist Church this Saturday.
She is using the occasion as an opportunity to raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust as her cousin Ben Goddard, who was a patient in the Weston Park Hospital Teenage Unit, died in 2005 at the age of 20.
The talented soprano has secured a place at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff where she goes in September to begin a MMus vocal studies course.
Helen has sung as a soloist with choirs and for music societies across South Yorkshire. Her recent engagements have included playing Angelina in Trial By Jury for John Wade Singers, Eurydice in Orpheus in the Underworld and Micaela in Carmen for Sheffield City Opera and in Bravo Music Hall Productions.
She has been teaching singing in local schools for the past six years and, along with professional vocal training in Cardiff, intends to pursue research related to vocal teaching and music psychology.
With the greater immediacy of an audience, she says she is happiest in recital but is still looking forward to appearing in college opera productions.
