Pinnacle of success
Thornbridge and Sierra Nevada breweries collaboration
Sierra Nevada Brewery, set among the mountains of California, is one of the most respected craft breweries in the world. Thornbridge, based in the Derbyshire Peak District, is building a similar reputation…
Next week a new beer, brewed jointly by the two companies, is to be released, appropriately named Twin Peaks.
Thornbridge brewers admit they were inspired by the Sierra Nevada beers right from the start – and Sierra’s brewing ambassador Steve Grossman is equally enthusiastic about Thornbridge ales.
During a series of exchange visits last year he and Thornbridge’s head brewer Rob Lovatt hatched a plan for a collaborative brew.
They used hops from Sierra’s own supplies, with malts from the UK: “After the brew we used a ‘hop torpedo’ to maximise the great flavours and aromas of the hops,” says Lovatt.
“A real collaboration of the Old Country and the New Wave of brewing,” adds Grossman .
The result of the trans-Atlantic partnership is Twin Peaks: a full of flavour pale ale at 5% ABV with aromas of pineapple and mango balanced with the refreshing taste of lemon sherbet. Available from February 25.
