All change at Beauchief
The Beauchief restaurant is taking a new direction following the departure of head chef Charlie Curran and sous chef Adam Harper.
Charlie is keeping his options open, while Adam has moved on to work for Michelin-starred Simon Rogan in his new Midland Hotel restaurant in Manchester.
Meanwhile the Beauchief – named best fine dining restaurant in the recent Eat Sheffield Awards – is in the capable hands of executive chef Simon Wild, for many years head chef of sibling restaurant Artisan at Crosspool. He is supported by BrewKitchen group executive chef Les Rennie.
Food of love
Love is in the air, with a whole range of offers in city cafés, pubs and restaurants as Valentines Day approaches…
Cocoa, in Ecclesall Road, is offering a ‘love hamper’ of chocolate delights to the customer who comes up with the most heartfelt nomination for a loved one who deserves the sweet treat. Entries, in 200 words or less, should be handed in at the shop before February 14.
Specialist caterers Absolutely Couscous are inviting couples to share their evening with friends at the Harland Café in John Street. “We know that traditionally people go out for an intimate Valentines dinner for two, but our tables will be set for sharing – with big bowls of couscous and three delicious stews and tagines,” says Bahia Lynch. Tickets for the three-course Algerian menu are £20 in advance.
Those with a taste for fine wine have a choice of two events at Barrels & Bottles, Sheepbridge: the Lunch Club at noon, with a short cookery demonstration followed by a seasonal lunch (£20), or Valentines Dinner at 7pm when master chefs Simon Lilley and Bryan Thompson will be serving up a three-course meal (£35). Barrels & Bottles is also hosting a wine auction on Saturday 16, featuring everything from collectable single bottles to full cases.
The Harley in Glossop Road is pre-empting Valentine’s Day with a musical speed dating night on Wednesday, February 13. Singles in search of love are encouraged to take along a CD of their five favourite tracks and will have three minutes per date to bond over their love of music. Tickets £3.
Or make a night of it at Buckingham’s in Chesterfield with a three-course meal for £35 – and an overnight stay at £60 per room for two guests, including breakfast.
La Mama in Ecclesall Road is setting its Valentine’s celebrations to a jazz theme, with live music from Seven Shades. A set menu of tapas dishes includes a gift on arrival; tickets £25.
Rushour in London Road is offering a special three-course menu for £25, with an option to bring your own wine.
Meanwhile Le Bistrot Pierre has a choice of two menus: two courses for £20.95 before 6.30pm, or go the whole five courses for £31.95 including a glass of rosé.
And for those who can’t get out to celebrate on February 14 – or would rather stay tucked up at home – SnapDeli at Banner Cross has come up with the perfect answer. A ‘take home and warm’ menu offers two courses at £10 per person. Order by Monday on (0114) 268 6047 or www.snapdeli.co.uk
