Disappointment with Dylan crowd

ON FRIDAY night three of us went to see Bob Dylan at Sheffield Arena.

What a disappointment: not with Dylan, not with his band, and not with the music. It was the audience – or the large proportion of it with an apparent drink problem or with a poor attention span. Why else the constant procession during the performance of people up and down the stairs on their way to and from the bar?

No doubt the sale of drinks is a good revenue earner for Sheffield Arena, but it seems a great shame that the management can't limit this to intervals and before and after performances rather than allowing people to wander around the venue as though they're at home rather than in a public place where they interfere with other people's enjoyment.

I also saw members of the audience swapping seats during songs, and others leaving the arena with their mobile phones. I find it impossible to understand why, if they have gone to the trouble and expense of buying tickets, they can't keep their bums on their seats for the duration of the concert. It's inconsiderate to others in the audience. It also constitutes bad manners to the performers.
