Green technology vital for our future

I AM responding to two letters concerning wind power in the Telegraph of March 28.

M Smith states that wind turbines are 'ugly' in the landscape. No other problems with wind power are mentioned. The truth is that the only real problem, if perceived as a problem, with wind power is one of visual intrusion. They are visually intrusive. If you don't like the look of them, you're stuck with them. If you do like their look, and most people in fact do, then you've overcome the only significant problem.

M Smith seems to dismiss the problem of climate change and states that there are other, 'less intrusive sources of power generation', without saying what these are. Are you in favour of nuclear power, M Smith? We are all currently left with a clean up bill for the nuclear power we currently have to the tune of 100billion. That's about 2000 each. Sound like cheap power to you?

If M Smith is referring the wave and tidal power, then I agree and I'm a big supporter. However, wave and tidal, like wind, can't do it all. Between them we could probably provide 50% of UK electricity.

Dr Faust's letter refers to one Jane Davis. Apparently, noise from wind turbines has driven her from her home. Naturally, her allegations needed investigation and noise monitoring equipment was installed in her house. What do you think was the finding from this? Answer – nothing! No problem was found.

Despite this, Jane Davis is touring the country and telling anti-wind groups of her 'plight'. This is quite a time investment for her. How is she funding it? Do the anti-wind groups pay her or maybe someone else? Is she making money from her lecture tour?

Finally, Dr Faust claims that we can only get 6% of UK electricity from wind power. What utter rubbish. Please enlighten us Dr Faust by sharing your calculations with us.

Climate change is an urgent problem. We need clean green renewable technology as the bulk of the solution. That means power from, wind, wave, tidal, solar and energy efficiency.
