Katey Dent has been sales and marketing manager for The Rutland Hotel in Broomhill and sister hotel The Crown in Bawtry for nearly six years. The Rutland is a key sponsor of Ladies' Day, greyhound racing's answer to Royal Ascot, which takes place at Owlerton Stadium on Tuesday and hopes to raise £10,000 for St Luke's Hospice.
Katey's role deals mainly with the corporate side of business – she is the face of the hotels for existing customers and it's her job to find new business. She has been married for three years to Tony Dent, who is corporate sales manager for Mercedes Benz South Yorkshire, and they live in Ecclesall Road South, in the Weetwood Gardens 'Swiss chalet-style' apartments.
Raised in Askham near Retford, Katey grew up on a farm with mum, dad, sister Linzi, who is a butcher, and brother Richard, who still works on the farm with dad and has his own haulage business. "I loved growing up on the farm but knew the country life was not for me. I got my A-levels and went to Sheffield Hallam University. I have loved Sheffield ever since and it feels like home (sorry mum and dad!)."
lLadies Day tickets are available from Owlerton Stadium on 234 3074 or via www.owlertonstadium.co.uk. Restaurant/corporate box tickets (three course meal/Pimms reception/admission/programme) cost £30; Sportsman Tavern tickets (basket meal/Pimms reception/admission/programme) cost £10.
Well behaved rock starsWord of mouth spreads quickly in the music industry and our hotels have been lucky enough to have catered for the likes of Kings of Leon, The Prodigy, Kooks and many more in recent months. These people are so cool and well behaved – not a rock and roll tantrum in sight!
Boyzone are also regulars. They stayed with us last year for a full week and then again for another week this year. They use the hotel just before going on tour as they are practising at a secret venue and then stay with us during this.
I also have to give a special mention to Gok Wan who stayed with us on a recent visit. He was so lovely and was even telling the housekeepers 'How to look good naked'!
The hustle and bustle of SheffieldIt's nice to go home but there is nothing better than driving up Ecclesall Road with the bars, shops and people socialising outside. I love it. It's quite a contrast to the cows and sheep on the family farm back home. You can't beat Sheffield people – so friendly and welcoming.
Live musicI just love live music and you can't beat the venues in Sheffield. From seeing James Morrison at the Carling Academy, the Clone Roses at the Boardwalk to Girls Aloud at the Arena – all fantastic.
I love a wide variety of music – and you can't forget the Leadmill, can you? It brings back many memories of my student days in the city. At the moment I love Daniel Merriweather and Calvin Harris.
We even have cool bars in the city such as the Ivory Bar, off West Street, which has great chilled live music.
We're spoilt for choice, really.
A good night outI love to party and its all part of the job, of course! As well as the usual haunts of Leopold Square and Ecclesall Road, my local pub, The Prince of Wales in Ecclesall Road South, is well frequented and you must try the Bellini's in Piccolino's in Millennium Square in town – the best.
For a chilled night we head to the cinema. I love films and the most recent weepy has to be Seven Pounds with Will Smith. Tissues at the ready.
FoodI love my food (something about being a Taurean). If Tony and I fancy the best curry in the city then we head down to see our friend Naz at the Everest. The Cricket Inn at Totley is also a favourite – great food and very chilled out. Tony and I sometimes walk Bradley, the in-laws' dog, and you can take him in the pub. You also can't go far wrong at the restaurant at Napoleons on Ecclesall Road. Consistently good.
Where I liveThe location on Ecclesall Road South is perfect. You can grab a taxi and be in town in five minutes, or we are only a 10-minute drive to the beautiful Peak District. I love to head out to Chatsworth for a long walk and a picnic in the sunshine (with some nice chilled rose) and also just love the Chatsworth farm shop.
Sheffield's medical and academic achievementsThe Rutland is located within walking distance of both the University of Sheffield and many of the brilliant hospitals. We have many dealings with all departments for accommodation for visitors – professors, doctors and people undergoing operations, conference delegates…
It still amazes me how fantastic these people are and the jobs they do.
A flutterAs a treat we head to Napoleons for a little roulette. I'm not very good but it's fun. There are fond memories as I also met my husband in there while entertaining clients.
And, of course, you can't beat a night out at Owlerton for the atmosphere and sheer adrenalin rush as the dogs race past the crowd to the finish line.
