Kelli Parnham, manager of a pioneering development in the Cultural Industries Quarter, selects places to eat, shop and relax and introduces a Sheffield bluesman
Kelli Parnham is the manager of The Cube Live Work Scheme in Shoreham Street, a city centre pilot operation designed to revolutionise the way we live, work and treat the environment.

Originally from Grantham, she arrived in Sheffield seven years ago to stay with a friend and has never left. She admits to being a 'comic book nerd', loves sci-fi and landed her first creative industries job as assistant manager at the Workstation in Paternoster Row.

The Cube scheme she manages has been hailed as a milestone in the 20-year history of the Cultural Industries Quarter.

Over five years in the planning and construction, The Cube is thought to be only UK model that offers residents a chance to pick their own personal combination of working and living facilities to minimise their carbon footprint.

The building has a range of environmentally-friendly features including one of the city centre's first bio-diverse roofs, seeded with wildflowers to provide a sustainable environment for wildlife and insects and to offer energy saving advantages. It is cool in summer, reduces pollution and helps prevent flooding by retaining water.

The Shakepeare Hotel, West Bar

What was once an 1833 coaching inn is now a friendly, atmospheric pub and music venue. When I am not tucked away in one of its snug-like corners, I am enjoying one of the many live music acts upstairs. The first time I went to The Shakespeare was to see Curtis Eller's American Circus. It was a brilliant experience. The Shakespeare has a diverse range of music acts, and also hosted this year's SPLAYD – Sheffield's own folk music festival.

The Tom Attah Blues Explosion
Sheffield's very own Robert Johnson! One of my friends recommended seeing The Tom Attah Blues Explosion and I can tell you it is a unique experience. One man, one guitar and the blues, Tom describes his act as being "Blacker than the White Stripes and Bluer than the Black Keys". It is not surprising that Tom has quite a following, not only is the music great, but he also entertains the audience with anecdotes on the origins of blues music.

Poi in The Park
Poi in the Park is a monthly community meet for poi spinners, (the word poi means ball in Maori) jugglers and circus performers usually held at either Endcliffe or Weston Park. The group welcomes anyone who is interested in meeting new people and learning new skills and tricks. I am just a beginner really, and there are always people around to teach you new moves or give you tips. Plus it is always a great opportunity for amateur photographers, as some of the advanced spinners are spectacular!

Kumquat Mae, Abbeydale Road
I loveD this restaurant. The food was always fresh and homemade, and offered you more variety than just the standard veggie food. It was a small restaurant with a great laid-back atmosphere.
I always came away feeling well fed and looked after. (Kumquat Mae has shut).

Sharrow Lantern Festival
This is a fantastic community event, encouraging everyone to get in touch with their creative side and make lanterns of all size, shapes and creatures! It is always a great night out with live music, food & lots and lots of dancing!

Yabba's
My favourite 'food on the run' solution. Yabba's is a Caribbean food deli and takeaway. You can buy you dinner to take home or buy one of the excellent home-made sauces to take home and cook yourself! My favourite takeaway meal is ital stew and dumplings and Yabba's coconut rundown sauce.

Exile Clothing
When shopping in Sheffield I always migrate to Exile in The Forum. I love Komodo clothes, and they also stock a wide range of other organic and Fair Trade designers as well as books on Buddhist philosophy and handmade jewellery.

Showroom Cinema
The Showroom in Paternoster Row shows a variety of great films often overlooked by the larger cinemas. I particularly like Asia Extreme and Korean films, and always welcome the chance to see cult classics again on the big screen. The Showroom also has the comfiest seats in Sheffield, like a big armchair.
The Showroom has live jazz music in the bar every Sunday, which is the perfect way to relax before starting the week ahead.
