CATERING student Ashley Caley is cooking up a storm after winning an international competition.
Ashley, who is studying for a professional chef's diploma at Sheffield College, represented the UK in the Maurice des Ombiaux. He won the top award including cookery equipment and €1000.
Catering lecturer Mick Burke said: "It's like the Miss World of the catering calendar with different countries invited to take part. Ashley was chosen because he is talented and calm under pressure. I am thrilled he has done so well."
The 19-year-old, who works part-time at Fischer's Baslow Hall, had four hours to cook a two-course meal for 15 judges. It included trout in a classical sauce and saddle of lamb stuffed with caramelised shallots.
He said: "It was very flattering to be selected but there was all the fear and nerves that go with that. When the judge announced I had won, I was in shock."
