APPLES are the plum crop at wholefood specialist Beanies this weekend.
The Crookes shop is pre-empting Apple Day celebrations with a three-day English Apple Festival from October 10-12.
Matt West explains: "Although we do loads of varieties, they usually arrive in dribs and drabs. This year, though, we've got a selection coming from a pioneering Yorkshire grower for the first time."
The event will also feature unusual apples and pears from the National Fruit Collection in Kent and heritage varieties from organic growers in Herefordshire. Information and tastings will be available throughout the weekend.
