THE new-look Wig & Pen opens today, giving historic Paradise Square its own pub and restaurant for the first time in more than a century.
The Campo Lane bar has been extended backwards and now boasts an expanded bar, a bespoke dining room and outside seating overlooking the cobbled courtyard.
Located at the heart of the Cathedral Quarter, the Georgian square is currently home to many of Sheffield's professionals, but it once boasted two pubs.
Work began around three months ago to link the two halves of the building, restore long-hidden original features and install new ones.
The upper floor and Campo Lane section now form an extended bar and a salon privée, with a 50-cover restaurant below.
A new bar and lunch menu has been devised with an all-new à la carte for the dining room.
Head chef Alex Shaw is reinventing classic British recipes using locally-sourced seasonal food, with the emphasis on provenance and preparation.
Highlights include home-smoked mackerel with beetroot and horseradish potato; garlic-roasted field mushroom with Yorkshire feta cheese, peppers, grilled polenta and walnuts; and venison haunch steak in port and orange with smashed celeriac.
