THE door could be opened next week for two more restaurants in Ecclesall Road.
Two separate applications to convert premises near Hunters Bar are being recommended for council permission.
Long-running concerns about the potential impact of more places to eat and drink in Ecclesall Road are being raised again by nearby reside
nts but in both instances planners believe conditions can be imposed to help prevent any disturbance to neighbours.
They do not expect the vitality of Ecclesall Road as a shopping centre to be affected and, despite some worries over the parking implications, they are pointing to the Government's recent upholding of appeals after the council's rejection of other applications for restaurants.
The prospect of a vacant shop and a house next to the Traditional Heritage Museum being converted has prompted objections from a neighbouring dental practice, Sharrow Vale Community Association and nearby residents. One objector says: "City centre entertainment is creeping up Ecclesall Road and must be stopped."
The other, unrelated, project involves a change of use for the Katie Peckett flower shop and has led to an objection from the Botanical Gate Community Association, especially on behalf of residents of Wadbrough Road.
Councillors will consider both applications on Monday. No potential operators have been named.
Nonna's on Ecclesall Road has appealed to the Government against the council's refusal to allow the restaurant, bar and outdoor terrace to be used for longer in the evening.
