CAMPAIGNERS who fought to save Sheffield City Airport have taken their fight for a public inquiry to Brussels.
Members of Sheffield City Airport Movement - SCAM - travelled to the Belgian capital this week to present their case to the European Parliament's Committee on Petitions.

Sheffield Council has refused to hold a public inquiry into the circumstances
of the airport's closure and a deal allowing Peel to retain ownership of the site for just £1. SCAM is now appealing for the European Union to intervene because it paid for infrastructure around the airport.

Stewart Dalton, of Westfield, gave a 10-minute speech, outlining the airport's demise after scheduled flights were withdrawn in 2002.

He concluded: "We would like the airport to be re-opened, failing that we would like a full, open and public, enquiry into the events leading up to its closure and sale."
