TWO young advocates are set to swap Burngreave for Beijing next month in a bid to help promote disability sport at a major global conference.
Uzma Bibi, aged 22, and Naurin Fatimaare, 19, will fly out to the Chinese capital on Saturday September 4 after securing places on The British Council's Young Advocates programme.

They will be joined by 100 young people from 20 other countries, pl
us 100 youngsters from China, for a five day seminar at the 2008 Paralympic Games.

Uzma and Naurin are both members of the Burngreave Youth Council, part of the area's Streetworx Project, funded by Burngreave New Deal for Communities.

Over the five days the pair will take part in training and skills courses designed to teach them about the spirit of the Paralympic Movement and the Paralympic Games and will be expected to advocate the inclusion of young people with disabilities in sport when they return to Burngreave.

Uzma said: "This is a fantastic opportunity and a once in a lifetime trip. It will help us to develop our own skills and learn from other young leaders, but most importantly raise awareness of using sport to benefit a wide range of people communities and countries across the world. It came about through the Youth Council in Burngreave and I applied but never expected to be accepted on the programme and I was so excited when I found out. I still can't believe I am going!

"Through the advocates who attend, hopefully millions of other young people across the world will become aware about disability sport. I'm sure it will be an amazing experience and the results will be life changing."
