HUNDREDS of residents living next to a Sheffield railway line are being warned to brace themselves for late night noise as trees are cut back to prevent delays caused by leaves on the line.
Work is being carried out by Network Rail contractors between the Totley Tunnel entrance and Dore junction, affecting residents around Totley Brook Road and Grove Road. The company says some work may have to take place at night so there is no disrupt
ion to trains during the day.
A Network Rail spokeswoman said: "It's re-growth that is being cut back and the work needs to be done before leaf fall. Residents will be leafleted to let them know when work is taking place."
She added the work will be done as quickly as possible.
The promise was made after Dore and Totley Coun Keith Hill contacted the company to seek assurances after controversy six years ago when a similar scheme happened but people in the area were not notified.
Coun Hill said: "They are undertaking the leaflet drop before work begins, which is welcome. We were worried in case residents were not going to be informed.
"They have also agreed to leave a swathe of trees at the top of the embankment above the line as a noise barrier and an aesthetic screen."
The work is unconnected to the major project to re-line the neighbouring Bradway Tunnel, which has also required trees to be felled off Twentywell Lane, so access could be created.
