OBJECTIONS have been lodged to a proposed wind turbine as part of an expansion of the Peaks Centre in Waterthorpe.
There is some support for the wind turbine as a source of green energy but concerns are being raised that it will be an eyesore and too noisy.
One objector says the area already has to put up with "the constant buzzing from the Supertram transformer
building and high levels of traffic".
Another issue for residents is parking on residential streets which they fear will get worse if the college expands so it can take 300 extra students.
City planners say the wind turbine would be sited away from housing in a car park being reorganised to take more vehicles. They also point out that the centre is in "a highly sustainable location" next to Moss Way tram stop.
Councillors will be advised to grant planning permission on Monday.
Sheffield College campus is aiming to spend £5.5m on the development to provide more opportunities for education and training 14 to 19-year-olds in the south east of the city. Plans have been developed in partnership with the area's four secondary schools – Birley, City, Westfield and Handsworth Grange.
"The college has secured funding for the project, which must be completed on site by the end of March 2011, so the application is time-critical," says a council report.
