PLANS to develop a gallery in a popular North Derbyshire tourist village could be rejected because of its impact on the greenbelt landscape.
A North East Derbyshire District Council's planning officer is recommending rejection of the planning application for the development off Wilkin Hill, Barlow.
The council heard the building was intended for use as a gallery to display textile work
by the applicant who lives in the adjoining bungalow and works from home. She says she needs the space to see clients for consultations and for them to see examples of her work.
She also says she wants to compile a register of local creatives such as painters, sculptors, furniture makers and ceramicists and perhaps display examples of their work.
The planning officer said an allowance can be made for small scale employment and tourism facilities in the countryside if it can be shown that the location is appropriate.
But the officer added the development would be inappropriate because of its impact on the character of the Green Belt and potential for creating traffic problems.
