STUDENTS at Firth Park Community Arts College have proved their commitment to the community by raising more than £1,000 during citizenship week.
The annual event, organised as part of the school's citizenship GCSE course, involves every student in Y10 – and this was their best-ever result.
One of the highlights of the week was a staff talent show, in which the school caretaker's performance of Great Balls of Fire beat headteacher Mo Laycock into third place, with her rendition of Carly Simon's You're So Vain.
Other lunchtime fundraisers included pupils versus staff football matches and an arm wrestling contest.
Activities continued out of school time, helping out at primary school breakfast clubs, reading with younger pupils, gardening and shopping for elderly neighbours.
There was also a non-uniform day when students and staff dressed as fictional characters.
Mrs Laycock said: "This was our best ever citizenship week.
"All students, without exception, engaged enthusiastically in this work. The school was a buzzing hub of exciting activities and I'm very proud of all of them."
