TRAMS in Sheffield are being threatened with disruption as staff vote on industrial action in a row between managers and a trade union official.
A ballot of Stagecoach's 270-strong tram workforce over a call for action by trade union Unite closes today (Thursday).
Phil Bown, regional officer at Unite, said: "The ballot was called after the company de-recognised one of the union officials in
terms of negotiation recognition. We have started tribunal proceedings and we have balloted the union membership to find out how they want to support that official."
A spokeswoman for Stagecoach Supertram said: "We were recently forced to inform the Unite trade union we were no longer able to deal with one of its officials.
"It followed a number of incidents where the individual broke an agreement on the standards expected of a trade union representative and undermined the democratic voting process.
"We have followed the correct process relating to this matter and have consulted with Unite at every stage.
The Supertram network in Sheffield carries around 36,000 passengers every day.
