Here are a few things you can do today.
1 Simple Minds, one of the most successful bands of their generation. Special guests Deacon Blue, Glasweigan popsters from the Eighties, will be supporting the band, 7.30pm (£35).

4 World AIDS Day, public invited to join vigil organised by Sheffield's Centre for HIV and Sexual Health to remember lost loved ones and hear a performance by choir Out Aloud, as well as addresses from the Director for the Centre for HIV and Sexual Health, Steve Slack, and Coun Clive Skelton, Sexual Health Champion for Sheffield Council, Town Hall steps, 4pm.

5 Cafe Scientifique, Sheffield, the quest for ever larger astronomical telescopes discussed by Dr Richard de Grijs, Reader in Astrophysics at the University of Sheffield, Showroom Cinema bar, Paternoster Row, 7pm (free, emaill c.kuppuswamy@shef.ac.uk, www.sciencecafesheffield.org).

6 Folk night, New Barrack Tavern, Penistone Road, Hillsborough

7 The Witches of Eastwick, Lyceum Theatre, 7.30pm, (£18.50 – £32.50).

8 Chapeltown 50 plus Club, monthly session includes tea or coffee, a speaker, raffle and a chat, plus outings and weekly Scrabble club, Newton Hall, Chapeltown, 10.15am-12.15pm (Joan, 2400567).
