Crocodile tears on threat to bus
Angela Cooper, Cobden View Road, Sheffield S10
So Coun Ian Auckland, Cabinet Member for Transport, has 'sympathy' for the residents of Crookes, Walkley and all stops to Stocksbridge when his Lib Dem council has chosen to allow our valuable 201 bus to be withdrawn.
He claims that the decision rests with the South Yorkshire PTE. If that is so, we are all wasting our time voting.
What is the Passenger Transport Authority, made up of elected members put there by our votes, doing about this?
Surely the elected authority controls the non-elected executive? Certainly, it has control over their budget, and that's what this decision is all about.
Come off it, Coun Auckland. Don't waste your crocodile tears on us. At the very least you can gently twist an arm at the PTE on our behalf. At the worst you control the purse strings.
You control the council now and, remember, there's no taxation without representation.
If you and the Passenger Transport Authority wanted to, you could easily find the small amount of cash that's needed to keep this valuable lifeline going.
Shame on you for not admitting that you really can't be bothered. Residents of Crookes and Walkley, and all of us who have signed the petition, take note.
