AS A neighbour of John Birtwhistle, I write to endorse his remarks about rowdy and anti-social student behaviour in Broomhill, which seriously disrupts our daily lives and was aptly illustrated by the photo on the front page of the Telegraph (September 26).
We have been complaining about this both to the University of Sheffield and to the police for a number of years now but our concerns have not been taken sufficiently seriously.

It is not enough to say it is only a minority of students who behave
rowdily and thoughtlessly. Drunken drivers are in the minority but no-one suggests that we should not prosecute offenders.

As I was walking along Melbourne Avenue in Broomhill on Sunday I noticed several discarded takeaway cartons, on the lids of which someone had written: "The students are back – and so is the trash." Is this really how the student body wishes to be regarded by their host community?
