INTERESTING to read Dr James Symonds' letter in The Telegraph (July 18).
A full exploration of the Castle Market site has never been undertaken.

During my time as Cabinet Member for Planning I was very keen to ensure that a full archaeological exploration is undertaken once the Castle Market is relocated. This plan re
ceived cross party support, and I'm certain this will indeed happen.

Also envisaged in the Castlegate Masterplan will be the development of a new park on the site. The centrepiece of the park will be the castle remains.

We hope this will become an attraction of national significance.
