SO, Tesco gets the nod to put one of its "Express" stores at the Broadfield/Abbeydale junction, having failed at Walkley Commonside, and with an eye on Ecclesall Parkhead (and possibly Banner Cross?).
With a 24-hour operation within two miles of the new place, alongside other big sSupermarkets on Archer Road and a plethora of different, mixed convenience stores around Nether Edge/London Road, it can hardly be said that the Tesco Express is needed
.

It will sell the usual limited range of products at a higher price to people in a hurry, driving in and driving away, some no doubt to the gym, or working around Broadfield.

In other words it could be said that giving the go-ahead is going along with the particular rush-around, stressy stressy culture which many think this company, along with the gym and drive-in fast food outlets is part of.

And that this is the way this part of Broadfield is becoming anyway with it's impersonal, wide open traffic system and "vacant spaces ready for redevelopment", discouraging any pause for thought, converation, sitting or walking.

Near to this is actually a decent, safe feeling green area, next to the River Sheaf. Tree planting along the side of the path/road would screen this and afford some privacy and respite from the dominant idiocy of joining in with the rush.

I won't be using the Tesco of course.

I'm not the customer type they need for the operation, but I and many, many others feel that our lives are affected detrimentally by Tesco Express and its customer base.

They obviously don't need us, and we don't need them.
