WITH regards to the letter from 'A Parent' in the Telegraph (July 25), I agree that the timing is unfortunate for the commencement of work in Endcliffe Playground, but could I suggest the following radical ideas:
1. Thanks are expressed whole heartedly to the small group of local Mums (not the Council) who have spearheaded the fundraising & worked so hard to bring this ambitious plan to fruition, rather than finding ways to criticise.
2. Kids are encourag
ed to use their imagination when playing in the park, there must be hundreds of ways they could amuse themselves with a little bit of thought & without the need for a couple of tired swings & a slide. From ball games to skipping, rounders, leaf collecting, treasure hunts, making daisy chains, making friends! Or just playing in the stream & getting mucky (trust me, they'll love it!)
3. Perhaps the most shocking of all...parents could interact with their kids outdoors, show them how good you really were at hopscotch or making dens. Or go to the park with a bunch of friends & HAVE FUN!
4. Just enjoy seeing the transformation take place before your very eyes – remember – short term pain for long term gain, this time next year your kids won't even remember the playground was unusable, they'll be too busy enjoying themselves in one of the best facilities in the city – lucky things!
So I would again like to say a huge thank you to the small group who have made this possible and am looking forward to a summer spent doing more than pushing a swing!
