YOUR correspondent (Ignorance of the Planning System, Letters August 15) misses the entire point of why the new Liberal Democrat administration is determined to raise developer opinion of the planning service, and, in this process, to rule out no option on the future of the planning department.
If economic times are good, and your standards are low, then why should your most important customers care much if your service ( real or perceived) is poor.

If economic times are hard, and your standards are high, then it matters very much indee
d that your reputation for customer service is the highest, otherwise you could be in deep trouble!

All of these issues concerning improvements to the planning service, are under investigation at the moment.

We wish to see ways of involving our new community assemblies in consideration of planning issues, which I believe will enhance the accountability to their electorate, of democratically elected councillors.

We wish to maintain and improve upon standards of design and sustainability so the suggestion that we wish to be "in the pocket" of developers, is very wrong.
