I RECENTLY saw a photograph of our Lord Mayor, Arthur Dunworth, helping the pupils of Shooter's Grove to plant trees.
As a lover of trees and firm supporter of encouraging children to value their environment I applaud this action.

What I do find deplorable is the fact that in the next valley, in Mr Dunworth's own constituency, the City Council have a licence to fell 2800 trees (yes, 2800) without any pretence that they will be replaced.
How is that for a carbon footprint and an example to our children?

It seems to be another case of double standards for Sheffield City Council. Isnt it amazing how our council colleagues are keen to promote planting of trees in our 'green' city, posing for photographs, will we ever see them promoting the felling of 3000 trees? Its disgraceful what the Council are doing to this once beautiful area.
