15-year-old 'forced to work as a prostitute'

A TEENAGE girl trafficked into the UK and forced to work as a child prostitute in Sheffield earned up to £300 a night for her captors, a court heard.

The 15-year-old girl, who cannot be named, ended up in Grimesthorpe after running away from a care home in her native Slovakia where she lived after her mum died, Sheffield Crown Court heard.

The court was told the girl was befriended by a man who raped her and forced her to work as a prostitute.

Then arrangements were made for her to be moved to Sheffield by his relatives.

Abzeta Dunkova, 26, of Page Hall Road, Grimesthorpe, is accused of travelling to the Eastern European country to bring the teenager to South Yorkshire on the pretence that she would have "a better life".

She is said to have allowed the alleged victim to live with her and her husband while the teenager was forced to sell her body on the streets and hand over all her earnings to her captors.

It is claimed the teen earned up to 300 a night during her week-long ordeal in Sheffield in June.

Prosecutors claim the teenager feared for her life if she refused to work.

Dunkova, her husband, Marcel Dunka, 27 and her brother Roman Dunka, 34, who lives in Slovakia, are charged with two counts of trafficking into the UK for sexual exploitation.

They are also charged with false imprisonment.

The trio, along with a fourth defendant – Zaneta Hovathova, 21, of Slovakia – are also charged with causing child prostitution and controlling a child prostitute.

Hovathova's husband Simon Kandrac, 19, is facing two counts of rape and Marcel Dunka is accused of causing a child to engage in sexual activity.

The defendants deny all the charges against them.

Roman Dunka and Simon Kandrac – Dunkova's brothers – both arrived Sheffield with their families after the teenager was trafficked into the country.

It is alleged that Hovathova also worked as a prostitute during her time in Sheffield and she was with the teenager in a flat with two punters when police were informed of the girl's plight.

The court heard the teenager had told a man who picked her up that she was being held against her will and begged him to call the police.

In a video recording of her police interview, which was shown to jurors, she said she was forced to work as a prostitute on her first night in Sheffield.

The trial continues.
