£10,000 giveaway to make a difference

THE SEASON of goodwill is fast approaching and the Sheffield Telegraph has come up with a festive treat to warm the hearts of readers, with its first ever Community Cash Giveaway in association with the South Yorkshire Community Foundation (SYCF).

Through the Grassroots Grants programme, SYCF has grant funding available for volunteer-led community groups and projects in Sheffield, and a bumper pot of 10,000 has been made available exclusively to the Telegraph's readers.

Grassroots Grants aims to provide much needed assistance to Sheffield's unsung heroes, with grants of between 250 and 700 available to those who work to help local communities.

Pauline Grice, chief executive of SYCF, said: "We are absolutely delighted to have teamed up with the Telegraph for this fantastic cash giveaway.

"There are so many groups in Sheffield that perform miracles every day on shoestring budgets.

"We hope that this cash will come as great help to grassroots projects that are so vital to the local community."

The South Yorkshire Community Foundation is a grant-making organisation that helps build stronger communities by promoting local giving.

It has been delivering grants to local communities within Sheffield since 1986, and through the Grassroots Grants funding stream is well placed to extend its good work further into the community.

Small voluntary and community groups can apply to receive a cash boost, for example to pay for tools to clean up a local park, for a sports team to purchase new equipment or to fund training costs for group members.

Pauline added: "We have funded some great groups in Sheffield, and together with the Telegraph we are hoping that even more vital community projects can get their hands on some well-deserved funding."

Telegraph editor David Todd said: "We are thrilled to be able to work with the South Yorkshire Community Foundation on such a great project. We know there are many people throughout the city who give up so much of their time to community groups.

"I am sure that these grants will make a significant difference to the groups who benefit.

"We all know that money is tight at the moment, especially with Christmas just around the corner, so this initiative could not have come at a better time.''

Through the Grassroots Grants programme, SYCF has been tasked with identifying those groups in Sheffield's communities that are in the greatest need of receiving a cash boost.
