£1m pub opening delayed
THE opening of a pub in part of the former Wards Brewery in Ecclesall Road has been delayed.
JD Wetherspoon says it hopes to have The Sheaf Island open "in eight weeks or so" after initially setting a date last week. The real ale pub chain has council permission for the development but is currently addressing the details of installing the plant and equipment.
The council says it wants to ensure that there will be no vibration to disturb residents of neighbouring apartments.
A Wetherspoon spokesman said: "We are disappointed that the pub opening has gone back. However, there are some issues that need to be resolved with the landlord."
The Sheaf Island is costing around 1m and will employ about 50 staff.
Meanwhile the company has recentl;y reopened the former Aunt Sally pub in Clarkehouse Road, Broomhill, as The Francis Newton.
