Introducing meals on wheels, with a twist…
Hallam University graduate Anna Phipps has launched a mobile refreshment business – serving not ice cream, nor hot dogs, but coffee.
Caffe Carino (Italian for ‘cute’) operates from a custom-designed Piaggo Ape coffee van.
This truck is equipped with a super-fast Italian-style machine that can prepare everything from espresso and americano to cappuccino, latte and flat white in a matter of minutes.
The travelling barista plans to take her coffee van to festivals, fêtes, fun days and family events across the area.
“There’s a great demand for good coffee now and I want to make sure that people can enjoy their favourite latte or cappuccino while they are away from the city centre,” she says.
Caffe Carino can satisfy the workaday coffee fix too: “Because we are so mobile, we can be at locations across Sheffield in minutes.”
Anna, 24, graduated from Hallam in 2008 with a first-class degree in hospitality but found it difficult to find a permanent post because of the recession.
Now she plans to help others in the same position by taking on apprentices to help her in the new business.
Caffe Carino will also stock a range of other drinks and snacks made from ethically-sourced produce.
Anna aims to use Fairtrade products where possible and will operate with an eye firmly on the environment: “We’re even going to recycle our coffee grounds into garden compost.”
Anyone wishing to offer Anna local, ethically-sourced produce, or to book the van for an event, should call (0114) 360 2428 or see www.caffecarino.co.uk.
